Keystone atop CSAC pre-season baseball poll

La Plume, PA – Keystone College's baseball team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches' poll. 

The 2009 conference champions were a unanimous selection, receiving all seven first place votes, earning them a perfect 49 points. Keystone College is ranked 11th in both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's 2010 NCAA Division III poll and the first edition of D3baseball.com poll.  

Keystone will be led by 2009 CSAC Player of the Year Eric Groff. Groff earned a Second Team selection on the 2010 D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America Team. The senior led the Giants in batting with a .445 average (81-182) as well as in runs (63), RBI (58), home runs (13), doubles (15), triples (16), slugging percentage (.808) and on base percentage (.488).

Also returning in the infield for the Giants is the 2009 Rookie of the Year, Esteban Meletiche. Meletiche was second on the team in batting with a .429 (73-170) average. As a freshman he was named the 2009 Most Valuable Player of the CSAC Baseball Championships.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by our peers and to be picked first in the preseason poll. It is a long season and there are some very good programs in the CSAC, we know it will be a very competitive schedule,” said ninth year head coach, Jamie Shevchik. “Hopefully we can repeat our success from last season and continue to build.”

Gwynedd-Mercy College came in second with 39 points. Conference runner-up, Neumann University, was selected to finish third, earning 32 points. Centenary College (31), Marywood University (22), Immaculata University (15) and Philadelphia Biblical University (8) rounded out the voting.
