3/7/2010
Winter Haven, FL (3-7-10) - The Keystone College baseball team did not have long to test out their preseason ranking of 11th in the nation, as the Giants lost their season opener to Misericordia University 9-4.
The Cougars used rallies in the sixth and eight innings to take the contest.
Ryan Smyth led the Keystone offense with a 3-4 effort, which included two RBI and two runs scored. Angel Fargas also drove in two for the Giants.
The game was a pitchers battle until the sixth inning when Misericordia broke out on top to take a 3-0 lead. The Giants closed the gap to 3-2 in the seventh when Smyth connected via the long ball. The Giants attempted to tie the score, but the potential tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
Misericordia then went on to plate five runs in the eight to distance themselves, before adding another run in the ninth.
