Keystone student-athletes honored for academic accomplishments

La Plume, PA (4-22-10) - The Keystone College athletic department recently held its Athletics Academic Excellence Luncheon, honoring those student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom.

The April 22nd luncheon recognized all Keystone student-athletes who have compiled a grade point average of 3.5 of better, as well as the student-athletes who have attained the highest grade point average in their respective class.

Following words of congratulations by Dr. Robert Perkins, Vice President of Student Affairs at the College, Dr Michael Torrence, Faculty Athletic Representative and Dr. Matthew Grimaldi, Director of Athletics at the College, presented awards to student-athletes who attained the highest grade point average in their respective class.

Catherine Scheuch (volleyball) and Mark Musumeci (men's basketball) represented the freshmen class, with each recipient earning a 4.0 last semester. Eric Hinkel (cross country/track & field) was the sophomore recipient with a GPA of 3.92; Kendra Bianchi (volleyball & softball) represented the junior class with a 3.89, while Keith Garubba was the senior recipient with a 4.0.

Bianchi and Garubba were also named as the Outstanding Female and Male Academic Recipients.

Dr. Grimaldi closed out the event by recognizing the men's tennis team as the team which had attained the highest grade point average. The Giants attained a team GPA of 3.42.
