Keystone tabs Tetzlaw to lead women’s basketball program

La Plume, PA (4-27-10) - Dr. Matthew Grimaldi, Director of Athletics at Keystone College, has announced that Katie Tetzlaw has been named as head coach of the women's basketball program.

Tetzlaw succeeds Jessica Bogia, who had coached the Giants for the past two seasons.

“I know that I can speak for our team and our staff when I say that we are extremely excited about Katie joining our department as the next leader of our women's basketball program,” stated Dr. Grimaldi. Katie has been a key component at several quality institutions, first as a player and then as a coach. Her background and basketball pedigree are solid assets that will be important as we reestablish our program among the CSAC elite.”

A 2004 graduate of Bethany College, Tetzlaw was a four-year letter winner and three year starter for the Bison. She was a member of three Presidents' Athletic Conference championship teams and participated in three NCAA Division III tournaments. Tetzlaw earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2009.

Tetzlaw just completed her third season as an assistant coach at Washington & Jefferson College under Jina DeRubbo, the same head coach she played for while at Bethany.

The Presidents have enjoyed success under the former Bethany duo, earning trips to the NCAA Division III tournament each of the past two season. W & J has compiled mark of 47-10 over that span, including a school record 24 wins in 2008-09.

“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to be the next women's basketball coach at Keystone College,” stated Tetzlaw. “It is my goal to not only advance the women's basketball program to a new level but to also create an environment which cultivates the growth of our players as young women, both academically and athletically.”

Prior to joining the staff at Washington & Jefferson, Tetzlaw spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Alleghany College. During that span the Gators compiled a 37-17 record, including a 24-9 conference mark. She also served one season as a graduate assistant at Bethany during the 2004-05 season.

Tetzlaw will inherit a squad that turned in a mark of 10-16 last season, which included a conference record of 5-10. The team returns fours of its top five scorers from the 2009-10 campaign, including CSAC Second Teamer and leading scorer Ellen Fallon (Scranton, PA/Scranton) (17.7ppg).

“I am thankful to the college administration for giving me this wonderful opportunity and I look forward to joining the Keystone College family,” added Tetzlaw.
