Men’s Soccer Hosts Highly Successful “Be The Match” Donor Drive

66 new potential donors join “Be The Match” registry

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College's men's soccer team held a highly successful "Be The Match" Donor Drive at this past Wednesday's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball game against local rival Summit University in the Gambal Athletic Center.  66 new potential donors joined the Be the Match registry while assists individuals and families affected by blood cancers.

In addition to helping new donors join the Be The Match registry, the men's soccer team helped raise awareness about the various blood cancers that affect thousands of individuals and families each and every day.  At halftime of the men's contest, Summit senior Kayla Underwood, a childhood cancer survivor herself, spoke to the crowd and explained how a donation from the Be The Match program helped prolong the time that she had with her brother, Jordan, who passed away this past summer.

Nearly 200 people have joined the Be The Match registry in the two years the men's soccer team has held a donor drive at Keystone, who also held a drive in 2014.  One donor from the last event has already donated to a patient in need.

"Keystone College's work with the Be The Match Registry has given hope, not only to the thousands of patients searching for their match, but for the one patient to date who has found their life-saving match and received the most precious gift of a second chance at life," stated  Aimee Haskew, Be the Match Engagement Representative, before the event.

For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 25 years Be The Match ®, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program ® (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world and works every day to save lives through transplant.
