Kelly's drive lifts Giants over Scarlet Raptors
Philadelphia,PA (11-25-08) - Michael Kelly (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford)'s layup with 32 seconds remaining lifted Keystone to a 56-54 victory over Rutgers-Camden.
The victory moves the Giants to 3-1 as they prepare to open conference play on December 1.
Keystone rallied from six second-half deficits of six points, the last one being at 51-45 with 6:03 remaining. The Giants, who improve to 3-1, tied the game at 51-51 and then took their first lead since early in the game when
Spencer Lunger (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock) hit a three-pointer with 1:04 remaining. That shot gave Keystone a 54-53 lead.
After Rutgers-Camden tied the game on a foul shot by freshman swingman Joe Bush with 44 seconds remaining, the Giants took the lead for good on the layup by Kelly.
The Scarlet Raptors had three shots to tie the game in the last 11 seconds, with the final one coming after a missed foul shot by the Giants with two seconds remaining. The desperation shot at the buzzer was off the mark as the Scarlet Raptors fell to 2-3 with their third straight loss.
Lunger paced the Giants with 10 points, while Kelly added nine points and tied for game-high rebounding honors with eight.
Rutgers-Camden received a game-high 12 points from Brandon Canty while Jared Meredith added 10. Mike Meloni tied Kelly for game-high rebounding honors with eight.
The Giants open up their CSAC slate on December 1 when they travel to Cabrini College for a 7pm tip.
