Cavaliers edge out Giants in CSAC opener
Radnor, PA (12-1-08) - Despite a game high 26 points from Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson), Cabrini College held off a late Giants rally to take the CSAC opener for both teams, 75-72.
Cabrini stayed perfect on the season as they moved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC, while Keystone fell to 3-2, 0-1.
Taylor went 10-19 from the field on the night with six rebounds and three steals. Spencer Lunger (Lake Winola, PA/Tunkhannock) connected on three from downtown for a 15 point performance, while Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) added 11.
Kevin Misevicius led Cabrini led with 22 points as the Cavaliers placed four players in double digits.
The teams played an even game as both squads shot 46% from the field and 68.6% from the charity stripe. The Giants held the advantage from beyond the arch hitting on 52.7% (9-17) of their shots.
Cabrini built a lead as large as 13 points in the first half before carrying a nine point advantage into the break.
The Cavaliers extended the lead back to 13 early the second half before the Giants strung together a 17-6 run to pull within two with 13:24 to play. Keystone managed to knot things at 58 with 9:05 to play when Hardnett recorded the steal and layup.
Cabrini would regain the lead only to see Keystone knot things at 71 with 1:19 to play. Trailing by two with eight seconds to play, Keystone's Payton Flynn hit one of two free throws to draw within one. After the Cavaliers hit two free throws with six seconds left to go back up by three, a last ditch effort by Keystone to tie things with a three were unsuccessful as they failed to get the shot off.
Keystone returns to action on Thursday December 4 at 8pm when they play host to Centenary College. The contest will mark the Giants home opener.
