Kobesky, Simko lift Giants to 64-55 victory

La Plume, PA (1-26-09) - Jessica Kobesky and Leah Simko each netted 17 points as Keystone downed Marywood University 64-55 in CSAC women's basketball action.

With the victory Keystone moves to 9-7 overall and 4-4 in conference, while Marywood falls to 10-7 and 5-4.

Kobesky was 7-8 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe, while Simko hit on 8-17, including the team's lone three-pointer.

Danielle Burke added 10 for the Giants.

Lizzy Green poured in a game high 20 to lead the Pacers, while Mariah Schaeffer added 15 in a losing cause.

Marywood had built a lead as large as five points in the first half before the Giants put together a 12-1 run to take a six point lead with  just under six minutes to play in the opening half.  The Pacers would chip away and knot things at 28 before the half on a Schaefer three.

Marywood would regain the lead in the second half, although their largest margin would only be four points.  Keystone would take back the lead for good with 6:32 to play when a Burke field goal made it 47-45.  

A three by Simko and a layup by Yasmeen Bates would extend the lead to six with 4:18 to play.  The Pacers would not draw an closer then three points the rest of the way.

Keystone shot 42.3% from the field on the night, while Marywood struggled throughout shooting only hitting on 27.2% of their attempts, including a 1-16 effort from three-point range. Keystone had its best night of the year from the free throw line hitting on 82.6% (19-23) of their attempts.

The Giants return to action on Thursday January 29 at 6pm when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy.
