La Plume, PA (10-10-09) - In a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in the CSAC field hockey standings, it was Keystone College that ran off three unanswered goals to come away with a 3-1 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy College.
With the victory Keystone moves to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC, while Gwynedd-Mercy falls to 10-4 and 6-1.
Fresh off a double overtime victory on Wednesday over Cabrini, the Giants didn't suffer any emotional let downs when the Griffins came calling.
Gwynedd-Mercy struck first at 6:40 when Dottie O'Neil scored off an assist from Kerri Boon, providing the Griffins' lone goal of the day.
Keystone answered back less than three minutes later when
Kelsey Drozda (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R. Memorial) recorded an unassisted goal at 9:19.
The Giants went up for good four minutes later when
Nicole Macedonio (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) scored her team leading eight goal of the season, with
Samantha Morgan (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and
Whitney Hubshman (Clarks Summit, PA/Lackawanna Trail) assisting.
Keystone would add an insurance goal at 29:53 when
Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) scored off a Macedonio assist.
The Griffins kept the pressure on in the second half, recording 11 shots, but the Keystone defense held tight for the win.
