Drozda's goal lifts Giants in double OT thriller

Scranton, PA (10-7-09) - Kelsey Drozda (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R. Memorial) converted a feed from Samantha Morgan (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) in the 92nd minute to give Keystone a hard fought 3-2 double overtime victory over Cabrini College in CSAC field hockey action.

With the win Keystone moves to 8-2 overall and stays perfect in the CSAC at 3-0, while Cabrini, the pre-season co-favorite in the CSAC, falls to 4-8 and 3-1.

Drozda, who also picked up an assist on the afternoon, scored the game winner at 91:43, converting the  winner past last year's CSAC goal keeper of the year, Caitlin Donahue.

Cabrini hardly let everyone settle in for the contest before scoring the game's first goal just fifty-nine seconds in when Shannon Mulhern connected.

Keystone would answer 2:03 later when Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) used a Drozda assist to knot things at one.  Brackney Brotzman (Brackney, PA/Montrose) would break the tie at 40:43, scoring off a Nicole Macedonio (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) feed.

The Cavaliers would tie it up once again when Maura Gorden scored at the 45:01 mark.

In overtime both teams had good looks at potential game winners, but the play of both Keepers kept things tied at two until Drozda ended things.

Keystone keeper Melinda Moore (Norwich, NY/Norwich) recorded nine saves, while the Cavaliers' Donahue recorded eight.

Keystone will return to action on Saturday at 2pm when they play host to Gwynedd-Mercy.  The contest will be played at Riverfront Sports.
