La Plume, PA (10-8-09) - Baptist Bible College netted two unanswered goals in the final twenty minutes as the Defenders edged out Keystone 3-2 in CSAC men's soccer action.
With the victory Baptist moves to 5-7-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 3-9 and 1-3.
The match was a spirited contest, which is usually the case when the two local institutions meet. It was the Giants who drew first blood when
Ryan Ehrhardt (Lafayette, NJ/Pope John XXIII) connected at the 17:26 mark to give the home team an early lead.
Baptist Bible knotted things at one just before the half when Caleb Byron scored at 43:13.
After a scoreless 25 minutes to open the second half, Keystone's
Jamie Ellis (Shanklin, Isle of Wight England/Sandown) broke the stalemate at 70:02, with
Scott Bensinger (Hegins, PA/Tri-Valley) and Ehrhardt assisting on the play.
The Giants lead was short lived as BBC answered right back thirty-two seconds later on a goal by Ethan Patrick, with Alan Elliot on the assist.
With time winding down and a potential overtime looming, it was Byron once again for the Defenders converting what proved to be the game winner with 2:17 remaining off an assist from Elliot.
Keystone keeper
Ryan Gilroy (Dallas, PA/Dallas) stopped seven shots in net.
The Giants will return to action on Saturday at 3pm when they play host to Marywood.
