Strong second half carries Monarchs over Giants

La Plume, PA (12-12-09) – Megan Rigous netted a game high 18 points as King's College scored 42 second half points en route to a 70-42 win over Keystone in non-conference women's basketball action.

With the victory the Monarchs move to 5-5 overall, while the Giants will head into the holiday break sporting a 1-5 record.

In a game dictated by Monarchs spurts, King's jumped out quickly in the fist half, building a 12-3 lead just five minutes in. However, the Giants began to chip away as King's went cold from the field, with the Giants using a 13-4 run over the next nine minutes to knot things at 16 with 6:05 left.

With the score tied at 17 with 3:49 left in the half, King's closed things out with a 12-1 run for a 28-17 lead at the break.

Keystone would climb back into things, closing the gap to five on three different occasions in the second half, the last time coming at the 13:00 mark. However, the Monarchs would use an 11-point run to extend a 36-31 advantage to 47-31 with 10:13 to play in the game.

In addition to Rigous' game high, Kayla Dick was the only other Monarch to hit double digits.

Ellen Fallon (Scranton, PA/Scranton) was the lone double digit performer for Keystone with 15 points. Melinda Moore (Norwich, NY/Norwich) added nine and Sarah Barreto (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) seven.

Yasmeen Bates (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain West) pulled in a game high 12 rebounds, despite King's holding a 36-27 edge on the glass.

The Giants, who committed 25 turnovers, struggled with their shot all afternoon, shooting just 31.8% (14-44) from the floor on the day, including just 1-11 from three-point range. King's didn't fare much better at the stripe, hitting on only 12 of 27 attempts.
