Second half run sends Pacers by Giants

La Plume, PA (12-5-09) – Marywood University used a 13-2 second half run to break open a tight a game as the Pacers remained perfect on the year with a 58-49 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's basketball action.

With the victory Marywood moves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 1-4 and 1-1 in conference play.

Clinging to a 40-38 lead with 9:51 to play in the game, the Pacers put together a 13-2 spurt over the next eight minutes to pull away and secure the win.

Mariah Schaeffer was one of two pacers in double figures with a 14-point afternoon to go along with a team high eight rebounds. Lizzy Green added 12 points.

Jazmine Harris (Fairfax, VA/James W. Robinson) netted a team high 14 points to lead the Giants, as the point guard also pulled in seven rebounds to lead the Giants. Ellen Fallon (Scranton, PA/Scranton) and Theresa Yazurlo (White Plains, NY/Bishop Hannan) each added 10 points for the Giants.

Yasmeen Bates (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain West) and Sarah Barreto (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) each added six rebounds for the Giants who struggled with their shooting on the afternoon. The Giants shot just 24% from the field in the first half, finishing the day at 33% and just 22.7% (5-22) from three-point range.

The Pacer also struggled with their stroke shooting 36.7% for the game and just 21.4% from beyond the arch.

Keystone will return to action on Saturday December 12 at 1pm when they play host to King's College in a non-conference tilt.
