La Plume, PA (2-10-09) - The Keystone College women's basketball team introduced their own version of the 'killer B'S' as the duo of Yasmeen Bates and Brianna Borowski carried the Giants to a 65-43 victory over Philadelphia Biblical University.
With the win, the Giants move to 10-11 overall and 5-8 in the CSAC, while Philadelphia Biblical falls to 4-16 and 1-2. The victory snapped a four game losing streak by Keystone.
The start of the game was anything but a mirror of the end result as PBU scored the first nine points of the game, holding Keystone scoreless for the first 5:03 of the contest. A Bates jumper finally broke the ice for the Giants.
The Giants would put together a 14-6 spurt, capped off by an Ellen Fallon jumper to take their first lead at 16-15. PBU would take back the lead building the advantage back to five. However, Keystone would close the half on an 11-2 run to take a four-point lead into the half.
The second half was all Keystone as they shot 52% from the floor, including 56% from three-point range as the Giants put up 38 in the second half.
It was the play of Bates and Borowski that provided the spark that the Giants needed, as Bates recorded a double-double with a career high 17 rebounds to go along with 13 points.
Borowski a freshman, came off of the bench to go 7-7 from the field to net a game high 16 points, including hitting on two three-pointers. She also added four assists.
Leah Simko added a dozen for the Giants. Fallon dished out a game high eight assists as the Giants recorded 22 on the night, while only committing 14 turnovers. Fallon also recorded a game high three steals.
Melinda Moore pulled in seven rebounds as the Giants controlled the boards with a 38-25 edge.
The Giants will return to action on Thursday February 12 at 7pm when they travel to Cedar Crest College for a CSAC contest.
