Allentown, PA (2-12-09) - The Keystone College women's basketball team saw their hopes for a 2009 CSAC playoff berth come to an abrupt end Thursday night with a 75-66 loss to Cedar Crest College.
With the victory, the third in a row for Cedar Crest, the Falcons move to 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 10-12 and 5-9.
The loss eliminated Keystone from a possible playoff berth in the CSAC.
Keystone started the game on the right note by jumping out to a 9-2 lead just three minutes into action. However, the Falcons answered with an 8-0 tun to take the lead. A Brianna Borwoski tri-fecta gave the Giants back the lead for a brief time.
Cedar Crest would hold the advantage in the high scoring first half until the 5:28 mark when Ellen Fallon connected on one of her five three-pointers to give Keystone a 29-28 lead.
With the score knotted a 34 with 2:53 left in the opening half Cedar Crest used an 8-2 run to close things out for a 42-36 lead.
Cedar Crest controlled the game for much of the second half, until Leah Simko hit a jumper to draw the Giants even at 63 with just over three minutes left. Kelly Oakes converted a layup to break the tie and the Cedar Crest went a perfect 10-10 from the stripe the remainder of the way to secure the win.
The Falcons finished an awe inspiring 18-19 (94.7%) from the free throw line, while Keystone managed only eight attempts, hitting on six.
A pair of Falcons recorded double-doubles as Cedar Crest put four players in double digits. Kelly Oakes and Liz Sunderhaus each netted 16 points, with Oakes pulling in 15 rebounds and Sunderhaus 14, as Cedar Crest dominated the paint with a 47-29 rebound advantage.
Lakeema Jones had the big night in the scoring column with a 25-point outing, including hitting all five of Cedar Crest's three's. Leann Wallower added 10 points.
Ellen Fallon had her second highest offensive output of the season for the Giants, netting 25 points on 10-16 shooting from the floor, including hitting on five three's.
Yasmeen bates and Leah Simko each added 10 points, while Bates nailed the double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Sarah Barretto dished out a team high five assists, while Fallon and Jessica Kobesky each added four..
Keystone will return to action on Tuesday February 17 at 6pm when they welcome Baptist Bible College to campus.
