Glenside, PA (2-28-09) - The calendar may have read February, but Keystone's boys of summer were in full swing, as the Giants opened their 2009 campaign with a sweep of Arcadia University, 11-3 and 13-3.
Keystone knocked out 19 hits in the twin-bill, while also taking advantage of 12 Arcadia miscues.
In the opener the Giants pushed across four runs in the second, followed by a three spot in the third and two more in the fourth as they rolled to the 11-3 win. Jayson Rohena and Angel Fargas each collected two hits, as the pair drove in six. Kyle Conrad also picked up two hits and knocked in two.
Fargas' two hits were both doubles, as Rohena and Ben Fish each picked up a two-bagger as well. Eric Groff added a triple.
Sean Brewer notched the win, striking out six and allowing just two hits and one run.
Game two provided much of the same, hot Keystone bats and poor Arcadia fielding. It was Arcadia who took the early 3-1 lead in this contest, but the Giants got back on track with an 11-run fifth inning to put any doubt about the outcome to rest.
Ryan Smythe knocked out two doubles and Fish also added a pair of safeties as two-timers for the Giants. Rohena and Conrad each added two RBI, while Donald Reese provided the big blast with a two-run home run. Sean Murphy picked up the win in game two, allowing one hit and striking out four in four innings of work.
The Giants will return to action on March 7 when they take on Webster University as part of their 10-game slate in Winter Haven, Florida.
