Scranton, PA (2-5-09) - Marywood University used a 17-3 run late in the second half to reclaim the lead and rally past Keystone 71-66 in men's CSAC basketball action.
With the victory Marywood moves to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 13-6 and 7-4.
The highly anticipated match-up began as most expected, as the teams traded the lead four times in the first ten minutes of action, with the Pacers clinging to a 13-12 lead with 11:03 left in the opening half. The Giants would put together a 12-3 run, thanks in part to a pair of three-balls by
Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), to build a 24-16 edge. Keystone would lead by as many as nine points, before taking a six point advantage into the break.
Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) led the Giants with 12 points in the opening twenty minutes as Keystone shot 54.8% from the field.
Unfortunately for the Giants, they could not find that shooting touch in the second half as they struggled from the floor hitting on only nine of 36 attempts.
The half did start in Keystone's favor as they built a 10-point lead at 46-36 when
Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) connected on a three. However, the Pacers responded with a 13-2 run that was culminated with a Joshua Pena lay-up and a 49-48 Pacer lead.
Keystone took back the lead with 9:44 to play on another Taylor tri-fecta. They would extend the lead to 60-55 after a pair of
Channing Woodall (Plant City, FL/Plant City) free throws with 8:08 remaining.
Over the next 7:35 Marywood put together a a 17-3 run to regain the lead for good.
Sidney Tharpe netted a game high 18 points to lead the Pacers, as he also pulled in 12 rebounds to record the double-double. Prince Blacknall added 16.
Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) led the Giants with 14 points, one of four in double figures. Hardnett added a career high 16 rebounds to record the double-double.
Taylor added 13 points and a team high five assists, while
Malcolm Boone (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick) and Woodall each added a dozen.
Keystone will return to action on Saturday February 7 when they travel to Centenary College for a 3pm tip.
