Pacers streak by Giants

Loss is third straight

Scranton, PA (2-5-09) - Marywood University streaked out of the gates building a commanding lead before the crowd had even settled in, as the Pacer rolled to an 81-55 victory over Keystone College in CSAC women's basketball action.

With the win Marywood improves to 13-7 overall and 8-4 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 9-10 and 4-7.

Keystone has been outscored by 82 points over the last three games, all losses.

Marywood opened up a 25-point lead midway through the first half, as they built a 31-6 advantage by the 11:29 to begin the game.  

The Giants would cut the lead to 32-13 following a Sarah Barretto three-point play with 6:04 remaining, but would get no closer as the Pacers took a 40-17 lead into the locker room.

The Pacers finished the first half shooting 45,2% from the floor and 83.3% from the free throw line, a stark contrast to the Giants' 6-30 effort, which included missing on all eight of their three-point attempts.

Keystone scored the first four points to open the second half to cut the lead to 40-23, however the Pacers put together a 19-6 run over the next 8:34 to put the game away.  Marywood actually built a lead as large as 33 points in the second half, with Keystone not able to get any closer than 22 points.

Four Marywood players hit double digits on the night, as they were led by Marielle Thorsen's game high 18 points.  Mariah Schaeffer added 15 and Maggie Farrell 13.  Amanda Lass recorded a double-double with a 12 point and 10 rebound effort.

Jessica Kobesky led the Giants with 15 points, while Sarah Barretto added 13.  Both Kobesky and Barretto each pulled in eight rebounds.  Ellen Fallon added 10 points off the bench for the Giants to go along with six rebounds and a team high four steals.

Marywood shot 90.6% (29-32) from the free throw line for the night, while Keystone hit on 23-36 attempts.  Keystone struggled all night from the field, shooting only 25.9% (15-58) as they also committed 30 turnovers.

The Giants will return to action on Saturday February 7 at 1pm when they travel to Centenary College.
