Giants and Cyclones split CSAC twinball

La Plume, PA (3-27-09) - The Keystone College softball captured their first conference win of the year with a 7-0 victory over Centenary College in game one of their doubleheader.  

However, the Cyclones bounced back in the nightcap with an 8-0 five inning victory.

On the season Centenary evens its overall mark to 7-7, while going to 4-2 in the CSAC.  Keystone moves to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

In the opener the Giants put together a six run fourth inning to distance themselves from the Cyclones.  Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), who was also the winning pitcher, and Heather Trudgeon (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) provided the big hits as each doubled and drove in two runs.

Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and Kelly Iovieno (New York, NY/Professional Performing Arts) also added RBI singles in the game.  Cunningham allowed five hits in seven innings while striking out two.

Danielle Dundas was a two time hitter for Centenary.

In the nightcap its was the Cyclones who used the big inning en route to the victory, as Centenary scored seven times in the first inning to breeze to the win.

Keystone managed just a pair of hits in the game, with Trudgeon and Kim Kwitoski (Montrose, PA/Montrose) recording singles.  Winning pitcher Ali Knapp struck out six and did not walk a batter.  Knapp also knocked in a pair with a first inning double.

Keystone returns to action on Saturday March 28 when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy for a noon doubleheader.
