Giants steal split with PBU

La Plum, PA (3-31-09) - Sabrina Johnson capped off a back and forth contest by stealing home with two outs in the bottom of the eight inning, as Keystone took game two of its doubleheader with Philadelphia Biblical University 5-4.  The Giants dropped the opener 8-3.

With the split PBU moves to 7-9 overall and 6-2 in the CSAC, while Keystone moves to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

In the nightcap PBU took a quick 1-0 lead in the first, but the Giants responded with two in the bottom of the inning.  Keystone would extend the lead to 3-1 after the second, however PBU would chip away with one in the fourth and two in the fifth to regain control.  Keystone immediately knotted things back up in the bottom of the inning.

The Giants had runners on first and second with no out and the bases loaded with one out in the final inning as they attempted to pull out the victory.  With two outs and the bases still loaded Johnson raced home to give the Keystone the win.

Leah Simko (South Gibson, PA/Mountain View) collected three hits in the nightcap with an RBI, while Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) and Kelly Iovieno (New York, NY/Professional Performing Arts) each picked up two hits.  Cunningham worked the complete game for the victory, allowing two earned runs and striking out two.

In the opener the Giants managed six hits by six different players, with Cunningham and Butzer each picking up a double.  Cunningham and Kim Kwitoski (Montrose, PA/Montrose) each knocked in a run.

Keystone will return to action on Wednesday April 1 at 6pm when they travel to the University of Scranton.
