Baseball clinches CSAC regular season title

Gwynedd Valley, PA (4-18-09) - The Keystone College baseball team captured the regular season crown in the CSAC, as the Giants swept a doubleheader from the Griffins, by scores of 9-3 and 8-4.  The doubleheader completed a three-game sweep by the Giants over the Griffins.

The sweep raises Keystone's mark to 30-4 overall and 12-0 in the CSAC, while Gwynedd-Mercy falls to 17-12 and 8-4.

Keystone, which has just three conference games remaining, wrapped up the regular seaspn CSAC crown and number one seed in the conference playoffs which begin on May 6.

In the opener Sean Murphy worked a complete game for the victory.  Murphy struck out 10 while three runs on three hits.

Donald Reese provided the spark for Keystone by collecting three hits and driving in four.  Reese homered and doubled as part of his effort.  

Josh Hinkle also knocked out three hits as part of the Giants 18-hit attack.  Esteban Meletiche, Kyle Conrad, Eric Groff, Jayson Rohena, and Jimmy Ferraro all banged out to hits each.

Reese struck again in game two as he connected for an eight inning grand slam to break a 4-4 tie in propelling the Giants to the win.  

Groff, who homerd, and Meletiche each collected three hits for Keystone.  

Brett Repard went the full eight innings to earn the win, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out two.  

The Giants return to action on Wednesday April 22 when they play host to Cortland State.
