Allentown, PA (4-24-09) - The Keystone College softball team split its doubleheader with Cedar Crest College on Friday, taking the first game 5-4 before dropping the nightcap 13-6.
With the split the Giants move to 12-20 overall, while evening their conference mark at 10-10. Cedar Crest falls to 10-18 and 7-13.
In the opener
Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up the win going seven innings with three strikeouts. She also added an RBI single to aid her cause.
Kim Kwitoski (Montrose, PA/Montrose) had the big blast for the Giants with a two run home run. She also scored twice.
Kelly Iovieno (New York, NY/Professional Performing Arts) added a pair hits with a run scored, while
Megan Thomas (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and
Heather Trudgeon (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) also added RBI's.
Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) doubled in the winning effort.
Keystone scored twice in the top half of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and take a 5-3 lead. The Falcons pushed across one run in the bottom of the inning, but the Giants held them off for the win.
In the nightcap the Giants jumped out to 5-1 lead after two and a half innings. Cedar Crest would close the gap to 5-3 after three innings, but the Falcons exploded for five runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to out things away.
Trudgeon doubled as part of her two hit game, while also driving in three in the game.
Leah Simko (South Gibson, PA/Mountain View) and Cunningham also knocked out a pair of singles as the Giants managed only four hits in the game. Thomas and Cunningham also each drove in a run.
The Giants return to action on Saturday when they round out their regular season slate with a pair of games at Cabrini.
