Late goals sink Giants in season opener

La Plume, PA (9-1-09) - Penn State Altoona connected on a pair of goals with just over three minutes left in regulation to record a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Keystone in the season opener for both teams.

The Lions and Giants battled to a scoreless tie for the first 86 minutes of play until Nathan Sonnenthal connected off an assist from Micholas Kline at 86:25.

Twenty-two seconds later Joe DeSteffano found the back of the net, with Micholas assisting again.

Ryan Gilroy (Dallas, PA/Dallas) recorded 10 saves in net, while Penn State Altoona's Chris Bolea recorded three saves, as the Lions out shot the Giants by a 28-8 count.

Keystone will return to action on Thursday at 7pm when they travel to Albright College for a non-conference match.
