Hardnett, Luce help Giants ground Griffins

La Plume, PA (1-25-10) - Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) recorded his ninth double-double of the season and Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) connected on five three-pointers as Keystone College downed Gwynedd-Mercy 80-67 in CSAC basketball action.

With the victory, the Giants third straight, they move to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the CSAC, while the Griffins fall to 7-9 and 6-3.

Hardnett netted a game high 26 points, while also grabbing a game high 17 rebounds to pace the Giants.  He also dished out five assists to go with three steals.  

Luce hit for 18 points, 15 coming from beyond the arch, as the senior provided an offensive spark whenever the Giants needed him.  Luce also handed out three assists with two steals.

Tim Benedix (Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley) added 11 for the Giants, with nine coming from downtown.  Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson) chipped in with five assists.

Jon Hogga led the Griffins with 16 points, one of three players in double figures for Gwynedd-Mercy.

The Griffins and Giants exchanged the lead seven times in the first seven minutes of the game as the teams traded buckets.  Keystone would build a seven point advantage with 10:34 remaining in the first half, when Taylor converted a layup and Benedix hit a three.

They would extend the lead to 35-21 when Luce connected on one of his five treys.  After taking a 42-29 lead into the half, the Giants would extend it to 14 before the Griffins used an 11-2 run to draw within five at 50-45 with 12:58 to play.

However, a pair of Hardnett free throws, followed by a pair of Luce threes  built the advantage back to 11.  The Giants would hold a double digit advantage the remainder of the way.

Keystone will return to action on Thursday at 8pm when they travel to Marywood University.
