Giants fall at Gwynedd; still clinch second seed

Gwynedd Valley, PA (2-18-10) - Gwynedd-Mercy College converted the winning basket with eight seconds to play in the game, as the Griffins downed the Giants 65-64 in CSAC men's basketball action.

The Giants went into the contest needing a win to secure the number two seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs, however, Immaculata University fell to Neumann University allowing the Giants to secure the second seed and a first round bye.

The Giants will host a semi-final game on Wednesday February 24 at 7pm.

With the victory Gwynedd Mercy moves to 12-12 overall and 11-6 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 18-7 and 13-5.

Jon Hogga took a bounce pass in the lane, converting the final tally with eight seconds left on the clock.  Hogga scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as the Griffins erased a 12-point second-half deficit for the victory.

The Giants' Tercel Taylor (Jackson, MI/Jackson), who paced Keystone with 19 points, had a last-second look but his tough angle-shot bounced off the rim.

The last 6:47 of the game featured seven lead changes as Jon Crabtree hit a right-armed layup to give GM a 55-54 edge, its first lead since early in the game.

With the Griffins nursing a two point lead (62-60) with just over two minutes in the game, GM got the ball back when Taylor was called for an offensive foul, but Gwynedd gave it right back and Keystone capitalized with a three-pointer from Ryne Luce (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) to take a one-point lead.

Gwynedd got the ball back on its final possession where a driving Payne made a great bounce pass around a defender in the paint to Hogga.

Kenneth Hardnett (Plant City, FL/Plant City) totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds.
