La Plume, PA (3-23-10) - King's College used a seven run third inning, overcoming a 1-0 deficit at the time, to down Keystone College 7-3 in non-conference softball action.
With the victory the Monarchs move to 4-7 on the season, while Keystone falls to 3-7-1. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will made up on Wednesday March 24 at 4:30pm at King's.
The Giants broke onto the board first with a run in the second when Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) singled home Samantha Hartman (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional).
King's took control of the game in the third, sending 11 batters to the plate as part of a seven run inning. The Giants answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own.
Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) led off and reached via an error before Abby Cohen (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) recorded a one out single. Hartman followed, also reaching via a King's miscue, with Butzer scoring on the play. Heather Trudgeon (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) drew a bases loaded walk to knock in the second run.
Keystone starting pitcher Tara Diesel (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) picked up a pair of hits, while also absorbing the loss.
Meaghen Galvin doubled as part of a two hit game for the Monarchs, with Gretchen Tholen driving in two with a triple.
Lindsey Hoerner struck out seven and allowed one earned run in picking up the victory.
Keystone returns to conference play on Friday when they travel to Marywood for a 3pm doubleheader.
