Scranton, PA (3-28-10) -
Tara Diesel (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) pitched a complete game as Keystone College held off a Marywood University rally in the bottom of the seventh of the opening game to take a 4-3 victory in CSAC softball action.
However, Marywood battled back in the nightcap to take a 12-2 decision. With the split Keystone goes to 6-9-1 overall and 3-1 in the CSAC, while Marywood moves to 6-12 and 3-3.
In the opener, Marywood had a 2-0 lead until Keystone scored three times in the fifth to take the lead. The Giants then held off an attempted rally by Marywood in the seventh by allowing just one run after Marywood loaded the bases with no outs.
Diesel tossed a three hitter in earning the victory, while striking out six batters and allowing only three singles.
Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and
Samantha Hartman (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) were two time hitters for the Giants, while
Loryn Haas (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) knocked in two with a triple. Hartman and Cohen picked up doubles as part of the 10-hit attack.
In the nightcap, Marywood plated seven in the first and five in the fourth to force the game to end after five due to the eight-run rule.
Butzer again had the hot bat, picking up two of Keystone's four hits.
Carissa Iyoob (Jessup, PA/Valley View) drove in both runs with a double.
Keystone will return to action on Thursday April 1 when they travel to Philadelphia Biblical University for a 3pm doubleheader.
