Keystone earns another Southern split

Surfside Beach, SC (3-9-10) - After dropping a heart breaker in their first game of the day to Penn State Altoona, 3-2, the Giants exploded for 17 hits in game two as they rolled by College of Saint Elizabeth 14-5.

The split moves Keystone's mark to 2-3 on the season.

In the opener Penn State Altoona pushed across the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the victory. 

Abby Cohen (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom), Samantha Hartman (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) and Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) all picked up two hits for the Giants, with Cohen including a double in her mix.  Carissa Iyoob (Jessup, PA/Valley View) added a triple.  Jessica Weingart (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery ) suffered the loss by allowing two earned runs on six hits, while striking out three.

Game two saw the Giants pound out 18 singles as they cruised to the win.  After falling behind 1-0 after the top half of the first, Keystone exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the opening frame.  The Giants would three more in the second.

A six run fourth inning capped things off for Keystone in a game that was stopped in the fifth due to the mercy run rule.

Marino and Loryn Haas (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) each picked up three safeties, while Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), Heather Trudgeon (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) and Kendra Bianchi (Montague, NJ/Port Jervis) all added two hits each.  

Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up the win by allowing one earned run in two and two-thirds innings of relief work.  Cunningham struck out three.  Iyoob started for the Giants allowing three runs and striking out two.
