Aurora, NY (4-13-10) - Abby Cohen (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) collected five hits on the day, while Carissa Iyoob (Jessup, PA/Valley View) added four, as the Giants overcame nine errors on the afternoon to split their non-conference softball doubleheader at Wells College.
Wells took the opener in comeback fashion, 11-10, before the Giants stormed back in the nightcap, 15-5.
With the split the Giants move to 10-15-1 on the season, while the Express go to 8-8.
In the opener, Keystone took a 10-6 lead into the bottom of the seventh, however Wells exploded for five runs in the last inning to squeak out a one run victory. The Giants had built a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half thanks to a pair of RBI'S from Heather Trudgeon (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) and an error on the Express.
Wells would put up six runs over the next three innings for 6-3 advantage. However, the Giants fought back with a five run fifth highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Iyoob that drove in two. Cohen and Lori Ann Marino each added RBI hits.
Keystone scored twice more in the sixth on an RBI single by Cohen and a pair of Wells errors. Wells would string together five hits in the final inning, scoring the game winner with one out.
Cohen and Loryn Haas (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) finished game one with two hits each, with Trudgeon and Iyoob knocking in a pair.
Despite six errors in the nightcap, the Giants banged out 17 hits to keep the Express at bay. Keystone scored six times before the Express ever came up to bat to set the tone early.
Keystone would score in each of the first four innings, scoring once in the second, twice in the third and three times in the fourth. The Giants added three insurance runs in the seventh for good measure.
Cohen capped off game two with four hits, including a double. She also drove in three and scored three. Iyoob recorded three hits, including a home run, to go along with a pair of RBI'S and two runs scored.
Marino and Janessa Karwowski (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area) each added three hits, with Karwowski driving in three and scoring twice, while Marino scored three times.
Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up the win, tossing the complete game. She allowed one earned run and struck out six.
The Giants return to action on Friday at 3pm when they travel to Centenary College for a doubleheader. Their road trip will continue on Saturday with a 1pm double dip at Immaculata.
