Lewisburg, PA (4-27-10) - Keystone College came within three outs of upending a Division I baseball program on their home field, however a three run ninth inning sank the Giants hopes of the milestone win, falling at Bucknell University 9-8.
With the win Bucknell moves to 20-28 on the year, while the Giants fall to 20-7.
Trailing 8-6 heading into their last at bat, the Bison strung together three walks and a pair of hits off Keystone closer Victor Lara to slip by with the win.
After striking out the first batter in the ninth, Lara allowed a single and a walk and after a passed ball, Bucknell had the tying run on second. Bucknell would draw back-to-back walks to draw within a run and tie the score on a balk call. A single through the left side proved to be the game winner.
Esteban Meletiche picked up three of Keystone's 14 hits, as the Giants out hit Bucknell 14-13. Meletiche doubled twice, while driving in three and scoring twice.
Eric Groff, Yazy Arbello and Angel Fargas were all two time hitters for the Giants, with Groff driving in a pair. Ray Jackson also drove in a pair, while also picking up two stolen bases.
Trailing 4-1 after three innings, the Giants put together a four run fourth highlighted by a two RBI hit by Meletiche and RBI'S by Andy Vega and Jackson.
Meletiche added his third RBI of the game in the sixth to give the Giants a 6-4 lead. The Bison would tie things up in the seventh with two of their own, before the Giants regained the advantage with a two run eight. A Jackson single and a Groff sacrifice fly gave the Giants the lead at the time.
Keystone will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to William Paterson for a non-conference contest.
