La Plume, PA (4-30-10) - Keystone College took both ends of its CSAC softball doubleheader with Cedar Crest College, 7-1 and 8-6.
The twin bill marked senior day for the Giants, as the team sent
Katie Butzer (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor),
Kelly Iovieno (New York, NY/Professional Performing Arts) and
Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) off in grand fashion.
With the sweep the Giants moved to 12-23-1 overall and 10-12 in the CSAC, while Cedar Crest fell to 9-23 and 4-16.
In the opener the Giants used a five run fifth inning to help decide the outcome, as they pounded out 10 hits.
Abby Cohen (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) and
Carissa Iyoob (Jessup, PA/Valley View) each picked up a pair of hits for the Giants. Iyoob tripled twice, while Cohen added a home run and single.
Kendra Bianchi (Montague, NJ/Port Jervis) also tripled as part of a two hit game.
Iyoob and Cohen each drove in three runs, with Iyoob and Bianchi scoring twice each.
Meagan Cunningham (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) went the distance allowing one unearned run on four hits.
In the nightcap the Giants used a four run second and a three run fifth to build a lead and then held off a Falcon seventh inning rally as Cedar Crest pushed across five to make a game of it.
Samantha Hartman (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) knocked out two hits as part of Keystone's six total. Six different Giants recorded an RBI.
Cunningham once again went the distance for the Giants in earning her sixth victory of the year. In the opener Cunningham recorded a program record, 500th inning pitched.
The Giants wrap up their 2010 season tomorrow on the road at College of Notre Dame (MD).
