Edwardsville, PA (9-16-10) - Wilkes University jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half and the Colonels held on for a 3-1 victory over Keystone in non-conference field hockey action.
With the victory Wilkes moves to 3-1 on the year, while Keystone dropped its second straight in falling to 2-3.
Amanda Peters put the Colonels on the board with 16:53 remaining in the opening half, scoring on an assist from Kaitlyn Bevans. Ten minutes later the Colonels added a second score on Olivia Dworak's goal, again with an assist from Bevans.
The Giants got on the board right before the half when Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) scored off a corner with assists going to Brooke Stutts (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) and Kelsey Drozda (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R. Memorial).
Wilkes closed out the scoring just over four minutes into the second half on a Marni Mancini goal.
Keystone keeper Melinda Moore (Norwich, NY/Norwich) recorded four saves in goal.
The Giants return to action on Saturday at 11am when they play host to Arcadia University at Ned Boehm Field.
