Field hockey falls in OT heartbreaker

La Plume, PA (9-18-10) – Arcadia University dropped a heartbreaking loss on Keystone College, as the Knights converted a penalty stroke with eight-tenths of a second left in overtime to take home a 3-2 victory in non-conference field hockey action.

With the victory Arcadia moves to 5-1 overall, while Keystone falls to 2-4.

Adrianne Altera converted the game winner for the Knights, with the winning shot coming just six minutes after Altera missed another attempt at a penalty stroke, bouncing the shot off the left post.

The Knights started quickly scoring just 3:18 into the contest when Marilean Beatty scored off an Altera assist.

The Giants knotted things at 22:34 when Kelsey Drozda (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R. Memorial) took a Brackney Brotzman (Brackney, PA/Montrose) pass for the score.

After a 1-1 score at the half, it was Arcadia bouncing back on top 7:53 into the second half on an unassisted goal by Ashley Griffith. Lori-Ann Marino (Hawley, PA/Wallenpaupack) brought the Giants even again, scoring off a corner at 49:24. Samantha Morgan (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Brooke Stutts (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) assisted on the goal.

After remaining scoreless for the remainder of regulation, the teams seemed to be heading for a second extra session before Altera was awarded the stroke.

Melinda Moore (Norwich, NY/Norwich) stopped seven shots in goal for the Giants.

Keystone will return to action on Wednesday at 4pm when they play host to Neumann University.  Wednesday's match will be played at Riverfront Sports in Scranton.
