Giants hang on to nip Royals

La Plume, PA (4-11-12) - Brian Del Rosso picked up two hits and drove in two as Keystone held on to edge out the University of Scranton 6-5 in non-conference baseball action.

With the victory the seventh ranked Giants move to 19-4, while Scranton falls to 12-11.

Del Rosso was joined by Andrew Siano as a two time hitter who also drove in one.  Lymbel Guerrero hit a solo shot to left for his lone hit of the contest, while Esteban Meletiche and Austin Straub each added a double in the winning effort.  Meletiche also scored twice.

Andrew Eggleston picked up the win, tossing four innings of four hit ball, allowing one earned run and striking out one.  Derek Alex worked the ninth to earn the save.  Dillion Chorba suffered the loss for Scranton, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits in four and a third innings.

Tim LeComte and Mark Grambo each picked up three hits, with LeCompte knocking in two for the Royals.

Despite committing five errors and managing just seven hits, things started strong for the Giants as they built a 3-1 lead after three innings.

Scranton, which picked up a dozen hits on the afternoon, kept chipping away with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to cut the Keystone lead to 6-4 as play headed into the final three innings.

The Royals looked to cut into the Giants lead in the seventh as the first three players reached base safely.  After Adam Krebs picked up a strike out for the first out of the inning, Meletiche fielded a slow grounder in which he made a heads up play by tagging the passing runner before throwing onto first to complete the double play.

Scranton took advantage of a Keystone error in the ninth to close the gap to 6-5.  With the potential tying run on second and two outs, Del Rosso made a diving stab in center to end the contest, perserving the one run win.

Keystone will return to action on Friday when they travel to Philadelphia Biblical University for a 3pm CSAC contest.
