Meletiche and Smith lead assault on Gothic Knights

Jersey City, NJ (4-25-12) - Connor Smith turned in a masterful mound performance, while Esteban Meletiche took care of things at the plate, as the Keystone College Giants rolled to their 19th straight win, 6-0 over New Jersey City University.

Keystone, which was playing their first game since moving up to third in the national poll, improved to 29-4, while the Gothic Knights fell to 12-23.

Smith moved to 5-0 on the season, as the Keystone pitching staff continued their impressive campaign.  Smith tossed the complete game shut-out, allowing just three hits and walk, while striking out four.

Meletiche had a hot day with the bat, as the shortstop knocked out three hits, including his 12th double of the season, while also driving in three and scoring once.

Frank Mormino and Miquel Castano each added a pair of hits and a run scored, while Austin Straub and Lymbel Guerrero added RBI'S.  Jhon Comas scored twice for the Giants who tallied 13 hits on the afternoon.

Keystone set the tone early, pushing across a pair of runs in the first and second innings, with a Straub driving in one in the first on a sacrifice fly and Meletiche plating two with a second in inning single.  The Giants added another run in the fifth on a Guerrero single, before Meletiche closed out the scoring with a run scoring double in the ninth.  Meletiche also picked up his team leading 23rd steal in the contest.

The Giants will return to action on Friday at 3pm when they host Immaculata in a CSAC contest.  The same two teams will close out their conference schedules on Saturday at Immaculata.

Following a non-conference game at Oswego State next Monday, the Giants will open up the CSAC playoffs on Friday, May 4 at 2pm in Boyertown, PA, as the Giants look for their fourth straight conference crown.
