Eggleston pitches Giants into winner's bracket

Boyertown, PA (5-4-12) – Andrew Eggleston allowed one run over eight innings of play as third ranked Keystone College took its CSAC Baseball Championship opener over Marywood University, 10-4.

With the victory Keystone moves to 33-5, while Marywood falls to 22-17.

Keystone will move onto to championship bracket play on Saturday at 11am. The Giants will face Neumann University, while  Marywood will face Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday at 3pm.

Eggleston moved to 6-0 on the year, allowing just five hits while also striking out five.

Nicholas DeFebo fell to 5-3 on the season in suffering the loss. DeFebo allowed five runs, three earned, in four innings of work.

Esteban Meletiche, Austin Straub and Miquel Castano each knocked out two hits as the Giants picked up a dozen in the game. Meletiche, Frank Mormino, Castano and Brian Del Rosso all belted out doubles in the winning effort. Castano scored three times while knocking in a pair, while Del Rosso also drove in two.

Nick Pasqualichio picked up two of Marywood's seven hits, with Dominic Loughlin driving in three.

After a scoreless first, the Giants pushed across three runs in the second inning, as Del Rosso ripped a double to left-center to bring around Castano and Straub for a 2-0 lead. They added a third run when Meletiche singled to left to score Del Rosso.

The Giants extended the lead to 4-0 in the third, as Chris Bzozowski scored on a Marywood past ball. A fifth inning miscue added another Keystone run when Castano, who walked and moved around to third on a Meletiche double, scored off a throwing error by the Marywood third baseman. The Giants could have made it a bigger inning, but left the bases loaded when Andrew Siano fouled out to first.

Keystone continued to tack on runs, adding a single run in the sixth, as Bzozowski walked and came around to score on a Straub single to right center for a 6-0 lead.

The Pacers finally broke onto the board in the seventh, as the first three players reached base safely via a walk and two hit bats men. A Dan Downton sacrifice fly plated Mike Pinelli with the lone run, as Eggleston worked out of further trouble by inducing a pair of ground outs.

The Giants eighth inning iced the game for the top seed, as Keystone scored four more times. Lymbel Guerrero would score the first run on a Mormino fielder's choice, before Siano and Mormino would come around on a Castano double down the left field line. Pinch hitter Jhon Comas closed out the scoring with a single behind the second base bag that would plate Castano.

The Pacers broke through for three runs in the ninth inning off reliever Mike Rossi, as Dominic Loughlin doubled home three runs, as Josh Plisko, Steve Wade and Eric Tomkins came around to score.
