Cavaliers Race Past Giants in CSAC Action

Cabrini builds 3-0 lead at halftime, add four more in second half



Radnor, PA – Defending Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer champion Cabrini College built a 3-0 halftime lead and added four goals in the second half on their way to a 7-0 victory over Keystone College in a league game on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 6-3-4 overall and 4-1-2 in the CSAC with the win while the Giants fall to 9-3-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in league play.

Cabrini opened the scoring on Saturday in the 13th minute when Melissa Scanzano volleyed home a corner kick served in by Gabby Meck before doubling their lead in the 18th minute when Kaitlyn Cooper scored the first of her three goals on the afternoon by scoring from 20 yards out after taking a pass from Bree Thompson. Devon Miller gave the hosts a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime with a shot to the far post after breaking through the Giants' defense in the 31st minute of play.

Cabrini broke the game wide open with four goals in a span of just 4:13 early in the second half. Dana Peterson took a thru-ball from Kaitlin Zisa and scored in the 54th minute before Cooper scored 47 seconds later off a MaryKate McCann assist. McCann setup Cooper again in the 58th minute as Cooper completed her hat-trick before Julianna Ardire closed out the scoring in the 59th minute on an assist from Scanzano.

Cabrini held a 19-5 advantage in shots for the game and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon. Marissa Jenkins was credited with the shutout win for the Cavaliers, who did not allow the Giants to place a shot on goal in the game.

Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) made five saves in 55:45 of action in goal for Keystone before being relieved by Shelby Divers (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area), who made on save while playing the final 34:15 in the Giants' net. Rebecca Dinelli (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) led the visitors with two shots in the contest.

Keystone will return to action next Saturday with a Colonial States Athletic Conference game at Immaculata University. Kickoff between the Giants and Mighty Macs is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Immaculata, PA.
