Ashley Evans (Wooster, OH/Wooster) scored a game-high 23 points and
Cierra Hensley (Frederick, MD/Frederick) recorded a double-double on 16 points and a season-high 13 rebounds to lead Keystone College to an 80-42 victory over Cedar Crest College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday night. The Giants, who also got 16 points from
Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech), snapped a three-game losing skid to lift their record to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Keystone raced out to a 14-2 lead over the first six and a half minutes of Wednesday evening's contest before Cedar Crest (1-6, 0-1 CSAC) was able to narrow their deficit to seven points at 16-10 at the 11:02 mark of the first half. The Giants countered with a 17-5 run to build a 33-15 advantage with just over seven minutes left in the period before claiming a 20-point advantage, 43-23, at the break.
Cuomo paced a trio of Keystone players in double-figures in the opening 20 minutes of play with 13 points while Evans added 12 points and four assists. Hensley added a first half double-double for the Giants on 10 points and 10 rebounds in the period for the hosts, who shot 50 percent from the field in the stanza including a 5-11 clip from three-point range.
Miranda Schaeffer led Cedar Crest with eight points in the first half while Breonna Lewis chipped in seven points and six boards for the Falcons, who connected on 30.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the frame while going 2-8 from beyond the arc.
Keystone opened the second half with an 11-2 run to stretch their lead to 54-25 and built a 30-point advantage with 10:44 remaining before pulling away for the 38-point win, their largest margin of victory on the year.
Evans shot 9-13 from the floor and 3-6 from downtown to lead all players with 23 points while finishing with four assists. Hensley was 7-14 from the floor while Cuomo went 4-6 from beyond the arc as the duo both scored 16 points apiece.
Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) contributed nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists while
Jerica Rode (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack) and
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) snagged six boards apiece for the Giants, who held a 54-32 advantage in rebounding for the night. The hosts shot a solid 50 percent from the field for the game including a 53.8 percent effort from three-point range while going 9-18 from the free throw line.
Lewis led Cedar Crest with a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds while Schaeffer finished the contest with 12 points for the Falcons. Denyell Spingola paced the visitors with three assists in the loss. The Giants limited Cedar Crest to a 27.0 percent effort from the field on the night while the Falcons went just 2-15 from beyond the arc and 6-11 from the charity stripe.
Keystone will be back in action on Saturday afternoon with a CSAC game at Rosemont College that is scheduled to tipoff at 1:00 p.m. in Rosemont, Pennsylvania.
