Ravens Hold Off Giants in CSAC Action, 76-73

Dargan leads four Keystone players in double-figures with 17 points

Rosemont, PA – Holding a 15-point lead with just over five minutes in regulation, host Rosemont College held off a late comeback bid by Keystone College to edge the Giants, 76-73, in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.  The Ravens lift their record to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Giants slip to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the CSAC.

Rosemont opened up a 15-6 lead over the first 9:48 of Saturday afternoon's game before Miles Dargan (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) connected from downtown that started an 8-3 surge by Keystone that saw the Giants draw to within four at 18-14 at the 7:15 mark when Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) canned a three-pointer.  After the Ravens stretched their lead to 10 points, the visitors cut their deficit to 29-24 with 1:22 left on the first half clock before the hosts netted the final five points of the period to hold a 34-24 advantage heading into the locker room at the break.

Khai Roberts paced the Ravens offense with eight points in the opening 20 minutes of play while Dom Scafidi and Marcus Thomas added seven points apiece with Scafidi adding eight rebounds in the half.  Rosemont shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half while going 3-6 from both beyond the arc and from the free throw line.

Longmire led Keystone with six points in the first half while Tyreek Peeples (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) netted five points for the Giants, who got four boards from Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry).  The visitors connected on 31 percent of their attempts from the floor in the opening stanza while going 3-13 from downtown and 3-4 from the stripe.

Rosemont netted a pair of field goals to open the second half and extend their lead to 14 points, but Keystone responded with an 8-0 run to narrow their deficit to 38-32 when Peeples scored on a layup with 17:53 left in regulation.  The Ravens pushed their lead back to 11 points before the Giants rattled off seven-straight points to cut the host's lead to 43-39 with 14:36 left when Dargan connected on another trey.

Leading 47-43 with just over 11 minutes left on the clock, Rosemont used an 11-0 surge to extend their lead to 15 points, 58-43, with 7:37 remaining.  Trailing 62-47 with just over five minutes remaining, Keystone outscored the hosts 22-10 over the next 4:24 to draw to with 72-69 with 46 seconds remaining.

The two teams traded field goals before the Ravens hit the front end of a pair of free throws with 23 seconds left to claim a 75-71 advantage.  Peeples scored on a layup on the Giants next possession to make it a two-point game with 10 seconds left on the clock and following a Keystone foul, the Ravens again made one of two free throw attempts to hold a 76-73 edge and were able to hold on for the three-point victory.

Scafidi finished with a double-double on game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rosemont to the victory while Roberts and Thomas netted 16 points apiece.  Clayton Wolfe led all players with five assists in the win for the hosts.  The Ravens hit on 52.6 percent of their attempts from the floor on the day including a 35.7 percent effort from three-point land.  The hosts, who held a 37-29 advantage in rebounding for the contest, also went 11-16 (68.8 percent) from the free throw line.

Dargan paced for Giants in double-figures with 17 points after going 5-9 from beyond the arc and 2-3 from the free throw line.  Peeples, Lunsford, and DaVaughn Roberts-Thomas (Port Arthur, TX/Silsbee) netted 12 points apiece with Peeples' effort marking a season-high.  Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) contributed nine points in the loss while  Dargan and Peeples tied for the team-lead with six rebounds apiece.  Lunsford paced the squad with four assists while Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) blocked a pair of shots.
