Field Hockey Routs Gators in Record-Breaking Performance

Keystone scores program-record 12 goals to improve to 3-1 in CSAC

La Plume, PA – Keystone College shattered single-game offensive records in a 12-0 rout of Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon as part of Keystone's Homecoming Weekend.  The Giants (4-7, 3-1 CSAC) set single game records for goals, assists, points, and shots and were led by Genesis Pacheco (Mount Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East), who set school record with nine points on four goals and one assist.

Allison Berman (Wilkes-Barre, PA/E.L. Meyers) added two goals and an assist, Kayla Bain (Lancaster, PA/J.P. McCaskey) and Rebecca Dempster (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) had a goal and two helpers each, and Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) and Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) added a goal and an assist apiece in the win.

Keystone opened the scoring just 3:34 into Saturday afternoon's contest as Pacheco rammed home a shot from close range after taking a pass from Bain, who picked up her first collegiate point of her career with the assist.  Courtney Wood (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) doubled the Giants' lead in the sixth minute by blasting home a shot from the left side of the circle.

Berman netted her first collegiate goal in the eighth minute by touching the ball into a vacant net after taking a pass from Smith, who collected the first point of her Keystone career with the assist.  Pacheco netted her second goal of the game in the 14th minute off a Paulson helper before completing her hat trick in the 18th minute with Dempster setting up the goal that gave Keystone a 5-0 lead.

Alissa Nugent (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) got into the scoring act with 4:14 remaining in the first half by finding the back of the cage from the center of the goal mouth after taking a pass from Bain before Smith scored the first goal of her collegiate career after taking a pass from Pacheco with 1:17 left in the first half to give Keystone a 7-0 lead at the break.

Pacheco scored her fourth goal on the afternoon and set a new program record with her ninth point of the game by knocking a shot into a vacant net after taking a crossing pass from Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) 4:42 into the second half.  Bain collected her first career goal in the 45th minute with a shot from the top of the circle after taking a feed from Berman on a penalty corner.

Dempster tallied her fifth goal of the season in the 48th minute by putting home a rebound to give Keystone their 10th goal of the game, breaking the Giants' previous single-game record of nine which was done three times prior to Saturday.  Berman netted her second goal of the game by pushing a feed from Dempster just over the line in the 53rd minute.

Paulson closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 1:57 left on the clock, firing a shot from the right side of the circle that beat Notre Dame goalie De'Ja Martin.

Keystone finished the game with a dominating, 51-4 advantage in shots and held a 43-2 lead in shots on goal.  The Giants also earned 23 penalty corners to one for the Gators.

Amy Denmon (Beaumont, PA/Lake-Lehman) made two saves to post her fourth shutout of the season for the Giants.

Martin finished the afternoon with 24 saves, while Peace Ani collected a game-high four defensive saves.  Caroline O'Donnell added a pair of defensive saves while Esme Halsey-Collins added a defensive save for Notre Dame, who falls to 2-8 this fall while remaining winless in five conference games.

Keystone will host Marywood University on Wednesday afternoon in a key CSAC showdown starting at 4:00 p.m. in La Plume.
