Strong Second Half Propels Keystone Past New Rochelle, 74-67

Donahue and Hall score 13 points apiece to lead Giants

La Plume, PA – Keystone College outscored the College of New Rochelle 21-11 in the third period of Friday night's non-conference game at the Gambal Athletic Center to rally for a 74-67 victory.  The Giants, who got 13 points apiece from Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) and Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic), improve to 3-1 on the season while the Blue Angels fall to 1-4.
 
New Rochelle jumped out to an 11-4 lead over the first six minutes of Friday  night's contest and would lead by as many as nine points before holding a 16-8 lead after the first period.  Keystone used a 7-0 run to tie the contest at 20-20 with 3:48 remaining in the second quarter on a Daynara Elysee (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) jumper, but the Blue Angels hit back to back three-pointers to reclaim the lead before taking a 30-26 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
 
New Rochelle's Jasmine Brandon led all players with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists in the first half.  The Blue Angels shot 38.7 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 3-12 from three-point range and 3-4 from the free throw line.
 
Donahue paced Keystone with seven points and three assists while Elysee and Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) contributed five points apiece in the first half.  Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) snagged five boards for the Giants, who connected on 31 percent of their attempts from the floor in the first two periods.
 
New Rochelle scored the first field goal of the second half to open up a six-point lead, but Keystone answered with an 8-0 run to take a 34-32 lead with 6:28 remaining in the third period on a Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) layup.  The Blue Angels went back in front on a three-pointer before Moro scored in the pain to put the Giants back at the point.  Another try by the visitors put New Rochelle in front, but Donahue tied the game at 38-apiece with 4:24 remaining to start an 11-3 run to close the quarter as Keystone held a 47-41 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
Keystone extended their lead to 13 points three minutes into the fourth period and New Rochelle was unable to come any closer than within seven points the rest of the way.
 
Hall and Donahue ended the game with 13 points apiece with Hall contributing her third double-double of the year by tying for a game-high with 10 rebounds while collecting a team-leading three steals.  Donahue led the Giants with four assists in the contest.
 
Moro tallied 10 points and had nine rebounds while Elysee, Hodanich, and Garret tallied nine points apiece for the hosts, who shot 39.7 percent from the field in the win while going 23.5 percent from beyond the arc and 53.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
Amirror Dixon scored a game-high 17 points to go along with nine boards and six assists for New Rochelle.  JaNasha King tallied 16 points while Brandon ended the evening with a double-double on 13 points and 10 boards.  Hannah Cambel was the fourth Blue Angel in double-figures with 11 points. 
 
As a team, the visitors shot 41.7 percent from the floor, 36 percent from downtown, and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.
 
The Giants held a 47-41 advantage on the glass and were plus-six in the turnover department (17-23).
 
Keystone will open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night as they travel to Neumann University for a game that will start at 7:00 p.m. in Aston, Pennsylvania.
