Cabrini Halts Keystone’s Playoff Run in CSAC Semifinals

Cavaliers defeat Giants 7-1 to advance to Saturday’s CSAC championship game

Radnor, PA – Top-seeded Cabrini College raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of Thursday night's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer semifinal game and never looked back on their way to a 7-1 victory over #6 Keystone College.  The Cavaliers, currently ranked ninth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic regional rankings, improve to 14-2-3 on the season while advancing to Saturday's CSAC championship where they will host #2 Marywood University, who defeated #5 Neumann University 2-1 in double overtime in Thursday's other semifinal.

Keystone, who defeated Cabrini 3-2 last Saturday to deal the Cavaliers their only loss in conference play this season while clinching their playoff berth, ends their season with an 8-9-1 record after making their deepest run ever in the CSAC playoffs.

Cabrini opened the scoring just 1:35 into Thursday evening contest as AJ Bishop scored off of a Bobby Kane assist before doubling their lead in the 8th minute on an unassisted goal by Mo Konneh.  Kane gave the Cavaliers a 3-0 advantage in the 16th minute by knocking home a pass from Bishop before Lucas Lampertti pushed the hosts lead to 4-0 with just 19 seconds left in the first half with Nick Hood setting up the tally.

Keystone trailed by four at halftime despite holding a 10-9 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play while both teams had four corner kick chances apiece in the first stanza.

Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) put the Giants on the board just 1:05 into the second half by scoring his fourth goal of the season and second goal in as many playoff games this fall by finding the back of the net after taking a pass from Haris Sabovic (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley), who recorded his third assist of the season on the goal.

Cabrini squelched any hope of a Keystone comeback by scoring three goals in the final 27:06.  Kane netted his second goal of the evening in the 63rd minute to restore the Cavaliers' four-goal advantage before Drew Vernon made it a 6-1 game with an unassisted marker in the 78th minute.  Fernando Sommo capped the scoring by converting  a penalty kick in the 87th minute.

CJ Serratore picked up the win in goal for Cabrini after making eight saves while Adam Zbiciak (Saint Johns, MI/St. Johns) suffered the loss for Keystone after making five stops.

The Cavaliers outshot the Giants by a 17-14 margin while holding a 12-9 edge in shots on goal.  Keystone held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks for the game.

Eddy Enowbi (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) led Keystone with five shots on the night including four efforts on goal.  Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, NY/Charles O. Dickerson) collected three shots while Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, NJ/Linden) place a pair of shots on target for the Giants.

Keystone will look to build upon this year's strong late season and postseason showing in 2016 as they will not lose any players to graduation.
