Farmingdale State Takes a Pair of Non-Conference Games From Giants

Keystone will look to get back into the win column on Friday with a twin bill against Purchase

La Plume, PA – Visiting Farmingdale State College swept a pair of non-conference baseball games at Keystone College's Christy Mathewson Field on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Giants 5-1 in the opener before claiming a 5-4 decision in the nightcap.  The Rams lift their record to 6-8 on the season with the doubleheader sweep while the Giants slide to 10-8 overall.

In game one, Farmingdale State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first at-bats of the game by using four hits and one error to score the first three runs of the contest before extending their lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth inning when Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) worked out a bases loaded walk that forced home Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) with Keystone's first run, but the Giants left the bases loaded, but Kevin Martinez came out of the bullpen and worked out of the jam before holding Keystone off the board in the home seventh to seal the victory for the Rams.

Four Farmingdale State pitchers combined to limit Keystone to three hits in the opener while Michael Marino led the Rams with three hits and three RBIs.  Tom Rydzewski and Ryan Osborne added a pair of hits in the game one victory.

Keystone starting pitcher Austin Barefoot (Alexandria, PA/Tyrone Area) allowed five runs on seven hits in two innings of work before being relieved by Josh Zilla (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore), who pitched five scoreless innings, scattering

Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) had two of Keystone's three hits in the opener while Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) also had a hit for the Giants in the game one setback.

In the nightcap, Farmingdale State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before adding three more runs on three hits and one Keystone error to stake out a 4-0 advantage after the home second.

The Giants got on the board with pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning as Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) ripped a two-run single to right field that scored Angelucci and Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) to cut the host's deficit to 4-2.  The Rams answered with a run on an RBI single in their next at-bats to claim a 5-2 lead midway through the third innings.

Keystone got the run back in the home third when Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) scored on an RBI single off the bat of Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) and made it a 5-4 game in the fourth inning as Angelucci crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Lanfranco, but that was the final run the Giants were able to push across.

Farmingdale State starting pitcher David Otero Jr. surrendered three runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work while Brandon Ernest was credited with the win after allowing one run on one hit in 3.1 innings on the mound.  Alex Pangourelias came on in the bottom of the seventh and picked up the save by recording the final three outs of the game.

Ryan Jordan went 3-3 for the Rams while Brian Brenton added a pair of hits in the game two win.

Keystone starter Jake Granteed (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) suffered the loss after being charged with five runs on seven hits while fanning two batters in three innings on the hill.  Jack Simons (Great Falls, VA/Bullis School) scattered three hits in 2.1 scoreless innings while Charles Morreale (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) allowed one hit and struck out one batter over the final 1.2 innings.

Lanfranco finished the game with three RBIs while Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) led Keystone with a pair of hits in the nightcap.

The Giants will look to get back into the win column on Friday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader against Purchase College that is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. in La Plume.
