Keystone Notches 3-1 Victory at Marywood

Giants earn key conference win despite being held to just three hits

Scranton, PA – Keystone College took advantage of six walks and one costly error to pick up a 3-1 victory at Marywood University despite being held to just three hits in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference game on Monday afternoon.  The Giants lift their record to 21-11 on the spring and 7-5 in conference play while the Pacers slide to 18-7 overall and 10-5 in the CSAC.

Keystone opened the scoring in the top of the second inning of Monday's contest.  Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) doubled to the right-centerfield alley and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Cody Darley (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) walked to put runner on the corners with two outs.  Bzozowski then came home with the game's first run as Darley was thrown out stealing second.

The Giants extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of unearned runs in the visitor's third.  Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) led off the inning with a walk and stole second.  Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ) then laid down a sacrifice bunt which Marywood's pitcher committed an error on that allowed Lanfranco to score.  Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) was come around two score Keystone's third run of the game on a wild pitch with two outs.

Marywood got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning as Erik Pulkkinen scored on an RBI single by Daniel Hull, but that would mark the end of the scoring for both teams.

Jesse Arnold (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) improved to 4-1 on the season with another strong outing on the mound for Keystone, scattering eight hits and striking out seven batters over seven innings of work.  Jake Granteed (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) yielded one hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless eighth inning before turning the ball over to Felix Baez (San Juan, PR/Colegio Presbiteriano), who struck out the side in the ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season.

A single by Corl, along with doubles by Bzozowski and Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast), accounted for the Giants' three hits on the afternoon.

James Goetz (2-2) suffered the loss on the hill for Marywood after being charged with three runs on three hits and six walks in eight innings while Russell Baldino pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Pacers, who got two hits apiece from Hull and Matt Staback.

Keystone will return to action on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference game at Widener University.  Opening pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Chester, Pennsylvania.
