La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College athletics is hosting a "Be The Match" Donor Drive at the men's basketball game against Summit University this evening in the Gambal Athletic Center.   A simple cheek swab will allow potential donors to join the Be the Match registry to help the organization assist individuals and families affected by blood cancers.

Organized by Keystone's men's soccer team, the Giants' goal is to get as many people as possible to join the registry by giving a cheek swab.  This is the second time the program is holding a Be the Match Donor Drive after running a very successful program in 2014, which saw 133 new potential donors join the registry including one donor who joined that night who has already donated to a patient in need.

"Keystone College's work with the Be The Match Registry has given hope, not only to the thousands of patients searching for their match, but for the one patient to date who has found their life-saving match and received the most precious gift of a second chance at life," stated  Aimee Haskew, Be the Match Engagement Representative.

For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 25 years Be The Match ®, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program ® (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world and works every day to save lives through transplant.

Head men's soccer coach Joe Schneck says, "We are excited to host another Be the Match Drive here on campus. The drive we held two years ago was extremely successful and we look forward to another great turnout to help those patients who are desperately searching for a cure for their blood cancer."

Next Wednesday night's crucial Colonial States Athletic Conference game between the Giants and Defenders will tipoff at 7:00 p.m. in La Plume.
