Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) reached the 1,000 career dig milestone and went on to Keystone College's all-time record for digs in the Giants' three-set sweep of Misericordia University on Thursday night. Keystone improve to 14-9 on the season with the win in the non-conference "Spike Out Ovarian Cancer" match on in the Gambal Athletic Center while dropping the Cougars to 7-21 this fall.
Thursday's contest was a Spike Out Ovarian Cancer match played in the honor of the late Kitty Anderson, the grandmother of Keystone sophomore
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), who passed away this past summer following a courageous battle against the disease. All proceeds from the event are going directly to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
Zuchowski, who finished the night with match-highs of 17 kills and 12 digs. The senior outside hitter reached the 1,000 career dig milestone on the 15
th point of the third set before breaking Keystone's all-time record, previously held by Danielle Cedeno on the Giants' 25
th point of a the thrilling set which Keystone ultimately won 30-28 to close out the sweep. Cedeno previously established the previous mark from 2010-2013.
Keystone won the first set 25-10 and took a two-games-to-none advantage with a 25-12 decision in game two. The Giants closed out the sweep with the exciting, 30-28 decision in the third set after the hosts fended off three set points.
Larkin finished with 10 kills while
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) put down five kills for Keystone, who posted a .319 hitting percentage as a team.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) dished out a match-high 34 assists while
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led all players with 13 digs and five service aces.
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) added a match-best four blocks in the victory.
Paige Shaughnessy led Misericordia with eight kills, Nicole Tagerty had 23 assists, and Coleby Charlier picked up a team-best eight digs in the loss for the Cougars, who hit .146 as a team.
Keystone will be right back in action on Friday with a pair of non-conference match at the Colonel Clash hosted by Wilkes University. The Giants will take on the host Colonels at 4:00 p.m. followed up 6:00 p.m. contest against Alfred State College.
