Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Keystone College finished a perfect 4-0 at this weekend's Colonel Clash hosted by Wilkes University by sweeping a pair of non-conference volleyball matches on Saturday in the final day of the tournament. The Giants (18-9) stretched their winning streak to six matches with a five-set triumph over Moravian College before sweeping the City College of New York.
Match 1 vs. Moravian
In Saturday's opener against Moravian (17-14), Keystone won the opening set 25-15 before the Greyhounds leveled the contest with a 25-12 decision in game two. Moravian took a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 decision in the third frame before the Giants forced the deciding set with a 25-16 win in set four. In the fifth set, the Giants claimed a tight, 15-13 to improve to 3-3 in five-set matches this fall.
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) lead a trio of Giants with double-digit kills with 14,
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) put down 11 kills, and
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) totaled 10 kills in the win.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) handed out a match-high 45 assists while
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led all players with 22 digs and four service aces.
Dana Carey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) added a pair of aces each for Keystone, who hit .288 as a team.
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) added a team-best two solo blocks against the Greyhounds, who hit .207 in the loss.
Taylor Kornmann led Moravian with 13 kills, Victoria Kauffman had 43 assists, and Jean Markovic picked up 19 digs in the loss.
Match 2 vs. CCNY
In Saturday's second match against CCNY (7-17), Keystone cruised to its 13
th sweep of the fall by sandwiching a pair of 25-9 set decision around a 25-17 victory in the second set.
Zuchowski led the Giants with 13 kills while
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) added five kills as Keystone posted a .273 hitting percentage against the Beavers.
Binkley added match-highs of 18 assists and four aces while Bowen added eight helpers.
Zuchowski chipped in with three aces while Heitman, Larkin, and
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) had a pair of aces each.
Heitman picked up eight digs to lead Keystone while
Maddie Roat (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added six digs for the Giants.
Camila Franco-Diaz paced CCNY with five kills, Tenaya Hawkins had 11 assists, and Leanna Pham added six digs for the Beavers in the loss.
