Scranton, Pa. – Keystone College qualified for the Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey playoffs on Thursday afternoon despite suffering a 4-1 setback at Marywood University in the team's regular season finale on a cold and rainy day. The Pacers (11-6, 5-2 CSAC) locked up the #3 seed in the playoffs with the win while the Giants (6-10, 3-4 CSAC) claimed the #4 seed by virtue of Cabrini University' 3-2 win at Immaculata University on Thursday.
Keystone held the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Mighty Macs by virtue of the Giants' 2-1 overtime win over Immaculata on October 15. The Giants also held the three-way goals-against tie-breaker over the Mighty Macs and Neumann University, who also finished 3-4 in conference play after a big win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Thursday.
The back-to-back playoff appearances mark the first time Keystone has made consecutive postseason appearances since the Giants qualified for the CSAC playoffs three years in a row from 2008-2010.
Marywood opened the scoring in the 13
th minute of Thursday's contest when Amelia Waibel scored off of a rebound on a shot that caromed off the boat before doubling the host's lead in the 30
th minute by blasting home a shot from the top of the circle after being fed by Kenzie Drew on a penalty corner.
The Pacers took a 3-0 advantage into halftime when Gabbie Bower scored 59 seconds later by putting tapping in a rebound at the right side of the cage.
Marywood extended its lead to four goals just over 10 minutes into the second half as Bower converted a penalty stroke opportunity for her second tally of the day.
Keystone got on the board in the 58
th minute when
Breanna Paulson (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) scored her sixth goal of the season on a penalty stroke of her own to cut the Giants' deficit to 4-1, but that would mark the end of the scoring for the game.
Marywood's Kerri Mountz made eight saves to pick up the win in goal while Kirsten Webb added a defensive save for the Pacers, who held a 23-16 advantage in shots for the game.

Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) took the loss despite making three saves in the first half while
Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) turned aside five shots in the second half.
April Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) added her team-leading fifth defensive save of the season in the loss for the Giants, who held a 9-6 edge in penalty corners on the afternoon.
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led the visitors with five shots on the day, Paulson attempted four shots, and
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) was credited with three shots in the loss.
Keystone will travel to top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday while Marywood will visit #2 Cabrini. Game times are yet to be determined for the semifinal matchups. The winner of Wednesday's semifinal contest will meet on Saturday, November 5 in the CSAC championship game with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
