Rosemont, Pa. –
Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) and
Brittany Sugalski (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) scored 17 points apiece to lead Keystone College to a 64-53 victory at Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Giants improve to 3-5 on the year including a 2-0 mark in conference play with their second straight win while the Ravens drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC.
Keystone jumped out to a 15-4 lead over the first seven and a half minutes of Saturday's contest and held a 22-12 advantage at the end of the first period. The Ravens pulled to within nine points midway through the second quarter, but the Giants scored eight of the final 10 points of the frame to take a 35-20 lead into the halftime break.
Garrett scored 12 points in the opening 20 minutes of play to lead all scorers, Sugalski netted six points, and
Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) and
Brianna Nolen (Union Bridge, Md./Walkersville) chipped in with five points for the Giants, who shot 36 percent from the field in the first half while going 2-7 from three-point range and 15-22 from the free throw line.
Leilani Naone-Carter tallied four points to pace Rosemont, who hit on just 21.1 percent of its field goal attempts while going 2-17 from beyond the arc over the first two stanzas.
Trailing 37-25 with 7:18 remaining in the third quarter, the Ravens scored 13 straight points to claim a 38-37 edge before Nolen scored on a layup at the 3:24 mark of the period to put Keystone back up for good. The Giants outscored the Ravens 10-2 over the final three and a half minutes of the stanza to take a 47-40 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.
The hosts pulled to within three points early in the fourth quarter before Garrett drained a three-pointer that ignited a 13-4 burst by Keystone that put the visitors in control with a 61-48 advantage with just over three minutes remaining. The Ravens briefly pulled to within eight points, but the Giants maintained a double-digit lead in the final 1:35 of the contest.
Garrett scored 17 points and collected a game-high seven steals while Sugalski added her second double-double of the year on season-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Hodanich also reached double-figures with 10 points for the Keystone, who finished the game hitting on 37.5 percent of its field goal attempts while going 30 percent from three-point land and 73.5 percent from the line.
Nolen finished with nine points while
Dyjae Williams (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) totaled eight points, 11 rebounds, and a team-best three assists for the Giants. The visitors held a 47-39 advantage on the glass on the day
Ke'aloh Naone-Carter paced Rosemont with 13 points while Shirle Brown netted 12 points. Ayanna Thompson dished out a game-high eight assists for the Ravens, who shot 29.6 percent from the field in the contest including a 15.4 percent showing from beyond the arc while going 7-9 from the stripe.
Keystone returns to action on Wednesday evening when they visit Wilkes University for a non-conference tilt starting at 7:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
