Keystone Closes Season With 83-77 Win Over Marywood

Giants shoot 92 percent from free throw line and dominate boards in Senior Day win

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College converted 23-25 free throw shots and held a 51-27 advantage in rebounds to key a season-ending, 83-77 victory over Marywood University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action.  The Giants finish the 2015-16 season with a 6-19 overall record including a 6-12 mark in conference play with the Senior Day win.

Prior to Saturday contest, Keystone honored seniors Aaren Adams (Bronx, NY/Scranton), James Cooper (Freehold, NJ/Pius X), and Tyreek Peeples (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College).

Marywood raced out to a 16-6 lead over the first seven and a half minutes of Saturday's contest before Khyle Diaz (East Miramar, FL/Pembroke Pines Charter) and Tyree Jones (Harlem, NY/Holcombe L. Rucker) hit back-to-back three pointers to bring Keystone to within four points.  The Pacers countered with a 17-5 run to open up a 33-18 advantage at the 6:39 mark, but the Giants battled back to cut their deficit to six points, 38-32, heading into halftime.

Marywood's Cory Callejas led all scorers in the first half while Connor Callejas tallied eight points in the first half for the Pacers, who shot 43.2 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 6-17 from three-point range in the half.

Jones paced Keystone with eight points and three rebounds in the first half while Devin Williams (Monticello, NY/Monticello) tallied six points and led all players with seven rebounds.  Cooper added five points for the Giants, who connected on 39.4 percent of their shots from the floor in the first stanza while hitting on 4-18 three-point attempts.

Marywood pushed their advantage to 45-36 just under five minutes into the second half, but Keystone used an 8-0 burst to draw to within a point with 12:35 left on the clock as Cooper connected from long distance.  The Pacers held a narrow advantage over the next five and a half minute until DeAndre Monroe (Raleigh, NC/Knightdale) tied the game at 63-apiece by converting a pair of free throws at the 7:06 mark.

Williams put Keystone in front for good with a layup with six and a half minutes remaining as the Giants pushed the lead to eight points, 73-65, with 3:27 showing on the clock.  Marywood cut their deficit to three points twice in the final two and a half minutes, but that was as close as they would come as Keystone completed the season-sweep of the Pacers, following up a seven-point victory at Marywood on January 27.

Williams tallied a game-high 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for Keystone.  Deion Monroe (Kingston, NY/Kingston ) added 14 points, nine rebounds, and a game-high five assists to go along with two steals while Cooper finished with 12 points.  Jones added 11 points, eight boards, and three assists while ShaShawn Drayton (Monticello, NY/Monticello) tied with Monroe for a game-high with nine caroms.  The hosts shot 43.3 percent from the field on the afternoon including a 27.6 effort from downtown.  Keystone also went 21-23 from the line in the second half to finish off a 92 percent showing on free throws in the win.
